Tu-95MS
The primary function of the Tu-95MS is as a carrier of long-range air-launched strategic cruise missiles, making it a key component of the Russian nuclear triad.
The armament of the Tu-95MS includes two Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-23 twin-barrel 23mm automatic cannons for self-defense, as well as the capability to carry a mix of Raduga Kh-55 (AS-15) subsonic air-launched cruise missiles or the newer Kh-101 air-launched cruise missiles, among others.
The strategic bomber has undergone numerous updates over the years to improve its avionics and overall performance. Modernized versions, such as the Tu-95MSM, feature updated propeller engines, new radar systems, and navigation systems that utilize Russia’s GLONASS for enhanced target acquisition and navigation capabilities.
